For the love of words

I just couldn't help but share with you all this amazing little ceramic quote tag from paper boat press. I love writing! I think it truly is an art of personal expression, so this little tag really spoke volumes to me. It is created by Kylie Johnson, a potter and a poet from Brisbane. You can visit her blog to find out more about her, or marvel at her other ceramic creations at the paper boat press shop. She certainly has a way with words...

I dream of design

I just love browsing the Design Files website! I envy all the incredibly creative people and their houses and workplaces. It is all kook, quirk and craft and I think it's splendid!

Feast your eyes on a few of the most delicious interiors from the page and I guarantee you'll be hooked! (And make sure you visit the website yourself, as it is bound to inspire.)    x

What a lovely thing to do

I was just reading the gorgeous blog 1001 way to be more lovely and I saw that Steph had created a soundtrack for her life (you can read the post for your oh-so-lovely-selves here). In the spirit of all things lovely, I decided to do the same thing with 15 of my most memorable songs.
So here goes:

1. Horses - Daryl Braithwaite
My dadda used to rock me to sleep to this song as a bub.
2. Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
My mum had pretty good taste in music, when I wasn't listening to her Cher or Joan Armatrading CD's I'd be bopping along to Tracy Chapman.
3. Four Kicks - Kings of Leon
The first time I remember actually listening to decent music, I was in my art class at school at the time - double street cred.
4. Coconut Skins - Damien Rice
This is one of the first songs I learnt on guitar (before I gave up). I remember being rather drunk at my 18th and singing it to my best friend, Gill.
5. No one's gonna love you - Band of Horses
Mah first (and only) love paused my Ipod at high school and gave it back to me stopped right on the chorus - he's a sweetie!
6. Monsters - Something for Kate
I have a massive obsession with this band, Monsters would come close to being my all-time favourite song!
7. Lemonworld - The National
His voice, the lyrics, this song - love, love, love!
8. Blood - the Middle East
I guess I am still getting over the break-up, these guys are so hauntingly beautiful.
9. Middle of the Hill - Josh Pyke.
Gill and I would sing every lyric of this song until we were blue in the face. I can never listen to JP without thinking of her.
10. 19 20 20 - The Grates
Patience is my absolute idol.
11. My Ticker - Jim Patterson
I heard this song years ago on JJJ unearthed and I find it so honest and charming and I've loved it ever since (it was also my Myspace profile song for ages!)
12. Things between people - Holly Throsby
It was really hard to pick just one of Holly's songs, but I settled on this one. This is the type of music I belt out in my car when I'm driving along by myself.
13. Kissing the Lipless - The Shins
Brilliant song by a brilliant band - plus Natalie Portman digs them too which is pretty cool!
14. Islands - The XX
I love this song! It's one of the few bands I will never ever get sick of.
15. Somebody that I used to know - Gotye feat. Kimbra
My favourite song at the moment, the man is a musical genius.

What songs would make it on your soundtrack?

It's a must read

I learnt how to apply make-up from my mother. I didn’t actually come to her, she came to me. My Mum told me it was about time I was initiated into the crazy world of beauty products, but to be honest I had absolutely no interest. She would inspect me every time I left the house, saying that I had to be more careful when I put makeup on as she rubbed, poked and prodded my face into submission. My makeup motto has always been something along the lines of ‘get it done as fast as you can, hurry!’ That was, until I picked up a copy of ‘Amazing Face’ by the charming, Zoe Foster.
Zoe Foster knows her beauty stuff; she is practically referred to as God in beauty circles! Zoe was beauty editor of Cosmopolitan, Harpers Bazaar and now has her own beauty blog, Primped (she is also dating Hamish Blake, the lucky gal). Zoe has an incredible knack of making beauty seem fresh and fun, no pushy mother’s rubbing in those make-up lines here, no siree. Her new book is a beauty bible featuring an array of tips, how-to-do-its and trustworthy product recommendations. It is broken up into easy to read sections about face, eyes, lips, hair, hands and nails, all the tools and essentials. Zoe leaves no questions unanswered in this book, she talks everything from protecting your skin from the sun, to eyebrow shaping, to disguising a big night out; and she does so with incredible warmth and humour. She even bids farewell to a few make-up techniques that are as ancient as the Egyptians. I mean, who knew that it is actually better to put mascara on BEFORE applying foundation! Zoe’s charisma and wit shine through on every page of this book and I couldn’t help but find myself laughing along and actually looking forward to my morning makeup routine.
I cannot speak highly enough of this book; after it arrived at my doorstep I bossily phoned my sister and my mum and told them to buy this book immediately. So they bought a copy to share and loved it. My copy of Amazing Face is filled with sticky notes, and a long list of beauty products that will probably make their way onto my Christmas wish list.  Hands down, this book is an investment; it’s like learning the ins and outs of beauty from your best friend. Maybe it was my forced introduction that caused me to not see eye to eye with beauty, but thanks to Miss Foster I am now batting my aptly highlighted eyelids in the face of beauty! ‘Amazing Face’ is a terrific read for women of all ages so go out and get a copy for yourself, you’ll be glad you did!    x

(I must also admit to having a massive girl crush on Zoe, she is ahhhmazing and quite frankly I wanna be her! Pleaseeee!)

One of those days

Ever had one of those days when you just want to hear some comforting or encouraging words no matter who they come from? Well now you don't have to look any further than the inside of your pocket (permitting you have pockets, silly!)

Kim, an illustrator from the Netherlands, has created these adorable little gems that slip inside your pocket to provide instant heart-warming goodness whatever the trouble. Whether you prefer June, Fred, or this fancy lil piggy sometimes we all just need to be told how wonderful we look, because we really do look wonderful, don't we!

Must Love Dogs

At the start of the year my boyfriend and I decided to rescue a pooch from the RSPCA. After months and months of browsing Adoptapet and after many impromptu trips to the kennels (and quite a few tears shed at the expense of the poor dogs that just needed a loving home) we found our perfect match! After promptly changing his name from Sparrow (guh) to Bear, he became the love of our lives (and the main subject of my photos!)

It has been over six months since Beary boy bounded into our lives and we couldn't be happier. Yes, there have been the occasional chewed hose and pop-up sprinklers (he has quite an affinity with water), the odd towel pulled off the line (which I doubt will be happening anymore) and the old mad dash after him down the street when I put too much confidence in his ability to 'stay' - but all in all he has been a wonder! Two private lessons with the kindest old ladies, Rosene and Sherwyn, was all it took to make Bear the most obedient dog around! He has the kindest nature, is the tug-of-war champion and even likes to jump up on your lap for a pat. I would honestly urge anyone thinking about adopting a dog from the RSPCA to do it, like right now! It has been so great for us, and I think he loves us just that little bit more knowing we gave him a second chance.             x

A lot of people have said we treat Bear like a person, but I have no idea what would give them that idea?! I mean so what if he has a favourite Origin team and a sweet tooth come Easter - sheesh kapeesh, can't a canine have a bit of fun?! Haha!

Cards got game

If there is one thing I will never understand, it's why people rip open their presents before reading their cards (and you will not be forgiven for not giving out cards at all, ya hear!) Personally, I think there is nothing better than giving or receiving a pretty tops card! That is why I just la la love able and game.

This kooky couple from Melbourne create the dandiest and most hilarious cards ever! They make me want to jump up and down around my lounge room shrieking with joy - yes, they even have a card for that occasion too! They have cards for absolutely everything from pregnancy, get well soon, going away, of course birthdays, and even gift tags!

They are marvelous, and you would be crazy not to share these quirky cards with all your loved ones. I also suggest you zip over to their blog too! It's well worth the read! x

Why, hello there...

I have finally decided to try my typing fingers out at blogging. I love blogs, I love the whole idea of being able to publish any darn thing you like and having complete freedom - it is marvelous! So, here I am right now, sitting down in my computer chair, trying to avoid looking at the time (because my next lecture starts in 15 minutes!!), drinking a nice glass of iced tea and... BLOGGING!! I hope you enjoy reading about my life, my nonsensical thoughts, the things I love and everything in between.

Thanks for visiting, and feel free to flick me a comment (it would be great to know that my Mum isn't the only one reading my blog! Ha-ha!)
