I learnt how to apply make-up from my mother. I didn’t actually come to her, she came to me. My Mum told me it was about time I was initiated into the crazy world of beauty products, but to be honest I had absolutely no interest. She would inspect me every time I left the house, saying that I had to be more careful when I put makeup on as she rubbed, poked and prodded my face into submission. My makeup motto has always been something along the lines of ‘get it done as fast as you can, hurry!’ That was, until I picked up a copy of ‘Amazing Face’ by the charming, Zoe Foster.
Zoe Foster knows her beauty stuff; she is practically referred to as God in beauty circles! Zoe was beauty editor of Cosmopolitan, Harpers Bazaar and now has her own beauty blog, Primped (she is also dating Hamish Blake, the lucky gal). Zoe has an incredible knack of making beauty seem fresh and fun, no pushy mother’s rubbing in those make-up lines here, no siree. Her new book is a beauty bible featuring an array of tips, how-to-do-its and trustworthy product recommendations. It is broken up into easy to read sections about face, eyes, lips, hair, hands and nails, all the tools and essentials. Zoe leaves no questions unanswered in this book, she talks everything from protecting your skin from the sun, to eyebrow shaping, to disguising a big night out; and she does so with incredible warmth and humour. She even bids farewell to a few make-up techniques that are as ancient as the Egyptians. I mean, who knew that it is actually better to put mascara on BEFORE applying foundation! Zoe’s charisma and wit shine through on every page of this book and I couldn’t help but find myself laughing along and actually looking forward to my morning makeup routine.
I cannot speak highly enough of this book; after it arrived at my doorstep I bossily phoned my sister and my mum and told them to buy this book immediately. So they bought a copy to share and loved it. My copy of Amazing Face is filled with sticky notes, and a long list of beauty products that will probably make their way onto my Christmas wish list. Hands down, this book is an investment; it’s like learning the ins and outs of beauty from your best friend. Maybe it was my forced introduction that caused me to not see eye to eye with beauty, but thanks to Miss Foster I am now batting my aptly highlighted eyelids in the face of beauty! ‘Amazing Face’ is a terrific read for women of all ages so go out and get a copy for yourself, you’ll be glad you did! x
(I must also admit to having a massive girl crush on Zoe, she is ahhhmazing and quite frankly I wanna be her! Pleaseeee!)
